I. Introduction/ General Information about the Book
  • Title: To Kill a Mocking Bird
  • Author: Harper Lee
  • Type of book: Fictional/ Mystery
II. Characters:

Main Character:
  • Jean Louise Finch: She is the daugther of Atticus Finch and at the same time the writer of this book. folks call her "Scout". She was an intillegent girl for she has been reading even though she hadn't started school yet. One of the problem that she had faced is being degraded by his classmates and his relatives at the same time. She has always been defending her father from being called as a "Nigger-lover". She had a fight once with her cousin, Francis, because of that matter.
  • I can identify with the main character when she was talking more about herself and about the happenings that had happened to her. She was always asserting some events about her life every time she was narrating. Also, most of the problems in the story were revolving to her.
Supporting Character:
  1. Jeremy Atticus Finch
  •  Jem was the brother of Scout. Just like Scout, he was also facinated about Boo Radley, by the time they had met Dill. He had faced one of the horrible problem when they-Scout and Jem- were followed by Bob Ewell. His arm was badly broken at the elbow when he was trying to help his sister.
     2. Dill Harris
  • His real name was actually Charles Baker Harris. Every summer, he was going to a vacation at her aunt Alexandra's place which is just next door of the Finches. He was the first to introduce the Boo Radley game to Jem and Scout. He was being adopted by a wealthy family but the said family never had given him attention. That is why, Dill came back to Maycomb without her aunt knowing. As he came back to Maycomb, he asked Scot to marry him. That time when he came back was the time Tom Robinson's case was called to court.
     3. Atticus Finch
  • He was thew father of Jem and Scout. He was a lawyer in Maycomb. He has been defending a negro named Thomas "Tom" Robinson from being accused of raping Mayella Ewell. He has being called as a "nigger-lover" because of defending the side of the negroes. He is doing his job as a lawyer very well by giving a fair opportunity to every people ,may it black or white, to defend themselves.
III. Setting:
  • The place where the story took place was at Maycomb. Maycomb was an old town with many norms, traditions and cultures. People in the place must abide to the rules and regulations for them not to become one of the Radley- "out of the community". In these place, there were many families living together with distinct characteristics.
  • COMMENTS:
  • The setting makes the story interesting. In the story, one who does not know about Maycomb will be unaware of their attitudes towards the person in the community. As the story continues, the traditions of Maycomb dictates how people should act towards the others. People in the place were always asserting the line:" anyone in Maycomb knows that". This line was showing that Maycomb was rich in tradition and has a strict law.
IV. Plot:
  • When Scout was almost six and Jem was nearly ten, Dill had come to Maycomb. The moment they had met Dill, the had been playing with each other. One of their game was the Boo Radley game which was introduced first by Dill to Jerm and Scout. They were doing this silly game to make Boo Radley out of the house. The had just stopped this silly game when Atticus caught them in the act.
  • Chrismas came and they-Jem and Scout- were forced to visit their aunt Alexandra at the Finch Landing. Scout met her cousin, Francis. Francis was calling her  father a "nigger-lover". That's why, Scout split her knuckle to Francis' front teeth. Scout was scolded by her aunt, unle and his father.
  • One Saturday, when Jem and Scout tried to explore with their rifles to look for some squirrel or rabbit, they had found Mr. Harry Jhonson's dog, Tim Jhonson. The dog was walking erratically and gone mad. The moment Cal saw the dog, she had come to warn all of the people in town to close all their doors and Cal called Atticus. After a moment, Atticus  and the sheriff-Mr. Heck Tate- arrived. Mr. Heck Tate let Atticus to do the job. Atticus shoot the dog bull's eye since he was a dead shot.
  • Tom Robinson's case has came to the court. Bob Ewell was the first being interrogated. He standed as a witness that he saw Tom raped her daughter. Next was her daugther, Mayella Ewell. She refused to say the truth. Instead, she said that Tom was the one who raped her .Last being interrogated was Tom Robinson.
  • The result has came out. Tom Robinson was found guilty about the accusation of raping Mayella. When he was trying to escape the prison, he was shoot. Atticus assumed that the case was already closed.
  • The night when Scout's play has finished, his brother Jem accompanied her to their house. A stanger was following them. When the stranger came out of the dark, they had run fast. Scout lost her balance because of her costume. Jem broke his arm when he is trying to help Scout.
V. Theme:
  • The author wanted to say that people should not be blamed for the crimes they havn't committed. Peolpe should not judge the people because they were black.
  • I learned from this story that people were not the same as what are their physical appearance implies. You should get to know first the person before coming to such conclusion.
  • When the dog Tim Johnson, gone mad, the people came together to elliminate him. For him not to spread diseases, Atticus shoot him bull's eye.
VI. Evaluation of the Book:
  • I like the book since gives me an impression about the situation between black and white. As Atticus said: "it is a sin to kill a mocking bird", I had thought that he is trying to say something. He trying to say that people should be treated equally because they were people and not because they were white or black. For that, I agree with him and liked the intention of the book to give equality to the people.

  1. - be conscious with your grammar especially subject verb agreement.
    - proofread your text before submitting. you had a lot of spelling errors.
    - book reports are about your thoughts and how you were able to reflect on the book that you have read, it's not much about summarizing it because you could easily copy paste the summary from your internet source
